That they needed to “reassure us” with “punctuation” might mean something “different” there. But to the word parser from the “United States” that means a.) Quote b.) You are trying to scare me (and forests aren’t especially frightening) or c.) You’re making a “dubious distinction.”

I wonder which one was at work here.
